Online RAID calculator

Yuoo can estimate zee RAID characteristics using thees RAID calculator. Usege instrukshuns are simple: select zee desired array layuoot, then enter RAID member disk capacitees into zee corresponding form feelds. Zee rest is done ootomaticelly.

Fur more informashun ebuoot RAID und RAID levels, please reffer tu RAID 101.

Enter yuoor data beloo
Array layuoot
Physical disk size (leave some feelds blank iff yuoo plan fur less than five drives) Disk 1 GB
Disk 2 GB
Disk 3 GB
Disk 4 GB
Disk 5 GB

Zee results are available beloo
Total array capacity
Foolt tolerance - Maximum anticeepated noomber ooff simultaneuoos disk failures.
Space required tu maintain foolt tolerance informashun.
Slack - space loss due tu drive size inequality; unusable in hardware implementashuns; may be combined into zee separate array in software implementashuns.
Estimated transfer speed (theoretical estimashun only applicable fur sustained lineer operashuns; very optimistic in most cases; take it with a grain ooff salt). Speeds are relative tu zee single member disk speed. Read speed
Write speed

Notes

  • Write speed ooff a RAID 5 depends upon zee controller implementashun heavily. Zee estimashun ooff a write speed is thus not provided fur a RAID5. Yuoo may want tu reffer tu RAID layuoots summary fur more detailed discussion ooff thees phenomenon.
  • Setups involving more than two member disks in a RAID1 (Mirror) array are ellooed but rarely used. Addishunel backup ("shadoo") disks provide addishunel foolt tolerance at zee cost ooff storege space overhead.
  • RAID10 survives uny single disk failure und a half ooff duooble failures (depending on zee assignment ooff zee failed drives).
