I have a large outlook express file to recover and have run software twice with the same results. The program halts with the following error message.

An error has occured and it's not possible to continueexecution. the program will terminate. Uncontained menu fault. Do you want to anonymously submit error report.

How can I run Zmeil without encountering this error condition.

PS I am running program with the Vista operating system.

We're now looking into it. Is it possible that you try running Zmeil as admin to see if this solves the problem (right click Zmeil icon, select "Run as administrator")?

And also, what the file size is?

Additionally, could you please verify

Target folder must exist. If it does not, please create it manually.
Target folder must be empty.
There should be enough space on the target. At least as much space as the outlook file is in size, or maybe slightly more.

All of the above condition were true. There is 92.2 gigabytes available on the hard drive and the email file is 752,460 kb. There was an empty folder. The process of recovery was in progress and incurred the error message about 88% through the first time and 64% the second time. Mean while I will try your advice and run as administrator.

There is one more thing, if there is an antivirus active, and some of the email were incoming spam downloaders or someting, an antivirus would then prevent Zmeil from writing the file. Do you have any sort of the on-the-fly (resident) antivirus checking active?

I ran Zmeil again with administrative controls and same thing happened. It was 88% processed and then I got the error message. It showed that 2585 messages recovered so far. Is there an internal limit to the number of recovered messages that can be recovered. Why does it take so long to run program, it takes 4 to 5 hours to process to the 88% level and then the program crashes. I will run the program again without AVG virus program present and see what happens but each run takes so much time.

No, there is no internal limit to the recovered messages count.

For an Outlook Express (DBX) database, the speed is pretty much the best we can attain, this is because of how the database is organized. The email message is stored in (probably nonadjacent) fragments, and some massive computation effort is required to assemble messages back from the fragments. Also, an antivirus analysis may slow things down.

However, be careful NOT to actually open any of the recovered messages with an antivirus disabled.

The error report suggests it failed when writing the destination file. Taking into account that the actual write sequence is little more complicated than just "write file", the antivirus denying access to the file looks pretty plausible. Still if the antivirus-off run does not work, the only thing else we can try is to use our in-development version to see if it works.

I have now run the program with anti virus and anti spyware programs off but with the same results. Ready to try next solution.

So, could you please download and try http://www.z-a-recovery.com/zmeil-20-002.exe. This one is the latest we have, and we need to check if it exhibits the same behavior. If you encounter an error again, be sure to submit the report again.

I ran the new program and while it still crashed there were some slight differences. I will list them.

1. Program quit working at 84% completion.
2. Unlike old version no records were written to output file.
3.When I clicked on yes for submitting annymous report on error message it came up three times so I had to click on yes three times but then the program humg and I had to go into Task Manager to end task.

The end result was not much different then before. I could send you the file and see if you get any different results. If you do you could send it back to me.

Would be very nice (and effective) if we can get an actual file. However, I envision some difficulty - do you have some place you can put the file at, so I can download it? Your webserver probably, I guess you have one? If yes, send me a link with a private message. If you have no way of doing so, we can probably arrange an FTP upload or something.
