Hello,
I try to use ZAR to restore files on hard disk damaged. Disk on winwdows is showed not formatted, but zar founding files and big number of bad blocks. When zar goes to 2nd step, after quick mode prescan, computer crash and need reboot.
I use windows 2003 standard, and on event viewer of windows have a big number of disk erros about bad block founded
Can I skip bad blocks to try to recovery files withou computer freeze and crash?

Provided that all other components are tested (i.e. the only problem is with the disk), I do not think ZAR can handle it. The system which stalls and requires hardware reset when accessing a disk is beyond our capabilities. ZAR needs to read the disk; if it causes system to lock up, there is nothing we can do.

Do NOT format. This would just induce more damage.
Sector skip or other stuff like this is not effective if the system stops responding completely.
If you have another machine at hand, try to move the disk to that machine and see if this helps to avoid reboots.

Ok, I use hard disk damage with 2nd disk, the first disk is a new and only have windows installed.
Computer crash when 2nd step, quick identifyng data, but I make changes on runtime controle, cited on this link http://www.z-a-recovery.com/man-runtime-control.htm, to bad sectors case, and now not crash yet.. I try to continue
I put my case here if I can have sucessfull or no ;)
Thanks for help
