Hi everyone—I have a 500Gb external hdd connected by usb to a Compaq Presario running winxp home—my main system crashed and I had to do a complete recovery—during this my external drive inadvertently got partitioned—was not previously partitioned—after all was finished I accessed my ext hdd and found the partition—about 3 Gb, containing some system files and another empty partition of around 460Gb—I ran zar but it only showed the 3Gb partition—using win disk manager I removed the partition and ran zar again—this showed the ext hdd as 465 Gb—I did a fell recovery option and after about 26 hrs, including scan and data identification, and at 99% complete zar terminated with error message: “access violation at 0x01400FF4 (unable to write to 0x01400FF4), program terminated.”. I searched the forum for answers—this was not unknown—tried to open logfile but couldn’t—system said it was 300+mb—deleted file and altered runtime parameters as suggested in one of the posts and tried again—same result—logfile 9+mb this time, I copied this--tried the process on another computer—took 35 hrs (slower machine , less ram)—same result—tried again on 2nd machine using unformat , scan and recover—40hrs same result—logfile empty this time-opened copied logfile, toobig too paste here but here are the last couple of dozen lines:

Opened it in msword—says it is 3000+pages—all data I know was on the disk is listed in one way or another using terms such as lost files—lost directory—purged etc.
Sorry this is so long but no short way of explaining—hope I have given enough information for anyone to help—or is it a lost cause—thanks.
