View Full Version : Lots of Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) files

I'm trying to recover a disk with many large VHD (Virtual Hard Disk) files, and the tool seems to try to read from inside the files (sticking a bunch of junk in the LostFiles segments) rather than trying to recover the VHD. The VHDs never appear in the "Mark files to recover" tree and therefore I am never able to recover them.
The $Mft seems to be OK, but the partition tables are hosed.
Any suggestions?

Once the run is completed, right click the ROOT folder. Use the selection feature available in the context menu to select *.VHD. This way, you find all of these regardless of their location - if they are buried down somewhere. Other than that, there is nothing I can suggest.

Tried that -- a couple of them show up, but the biggest ones (14GB) do not.

May be useful to retry with "quick scan" off. In "Advanced Configuration", under "Common filesystem analysis", set "Quick scan" to "Disabled", then make a full rescan. If this does not help, send me a private message with your order number so we can arrange the refund for you.
