I don't know if this is the place to post this but I just wanted to share:
My Western Digital 500 GB MyBook has been out of commission for several months. It was failing SMART which means it had PHYSICAL damage and I couldn't get anything to work. I tried countless Windows programs to try to recover/image the drive and all would simply hang/freeze as soon as I started the process. I even tried some advanced linux utilities that supposedly had a much higher chance of recovering data from the drive than these Windows programs and my drive caused them to crash as well.
I used ZAR to make an image of my drive and given my drive's poor condition, it took literally an entire week. When that week was over, however, I had an image of my drive that ZAR analyzed over night in order to successfully recover about 85-90% of a TON of files off my very damaged 500 GB drive! Given that I knew my drive had physical failures and that nothing else was working, I was beginning to think that the only hope of recovery was to send it in to a professional service and pay $1000+. Instead, ZAR saved me.
I would say that ZAR is probably the best $30 I have ever spent.
Sincerely,
dshap
