Volume analysis only showed one folder and a few sub-folders

I quick formatted my external hard drive. After running ZAR volume analysis, it only showed one folder and a few sub-folders. This disk has several folders. I am wondering if it is just because I am using the trial. I will buy the product, but wanted to make sure it recognized the data I needed to recover first. So far, the one folder it could recover is not one that I need. Please advise, ssulze.

There is no difference between full and trial in this regard. If the trial cannot not pick your data, then neither can a full version. So I presume you did like described in http://www.z-a-recovery.com/unformat-tutorial.htm? Do you know what is the type of the filesystem, FAT or NTFS? Also, what is the size of the external drive?
