Canon A420 Scan Problems

Hi I'm a newbie to this but I was wondering if you could help me.
I lost all my pics by formatting accidently and I have just run a ZAR scan using directly my camera, the scan took 35 minutes, looked like it had completed and now looks like it isn't doing anything, the bar is going up though very slowly.

You have scanned your hard drive instead of the camera. Make sure you selected proper device when prompted. If the camera is not listed as an accessible device, you then need a card reader device.
