Hi,

I was using XP for last three years. Yesterday I installed Ubuntu, hoping to have the dual booting systems on my computer. I, unintentionally, installed it on the same partition as XP and now XP is gone with all my data, of course. I don't get the choice to boot either XP or Ubuntu...rather Ubuntu starts.

Can ZAR help me recover the data? If 'yes', will it come with clear instructions to follow?

Thx.

Go and try this procedure
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/unformat-tutorial.htm
against the partition which was XP and now holds Ubuntu.

Success rate depends on three factors:
1. How much data was originally on XP volume.
2. How much space is now used for Ubuntu install (more = worse).
3. What exactly is overwritten on the original XP volume. This is really something I can not predict. But should not be that bad.

Also, if Ubuntu is on ext2/3 then you get some complication because ZAR would see there are both ext and NTFS and would get confused which one to pick up.

So before proceeding as described in a reference above, do this every time you start ZAR:
1. Click "Advanced Configuration"
2. Select "Overrides".
3. In there, set "Force filesystem type" to NTFS.
4. Click OK to close config.
note: This setting reverts to automatic mode every time you start ZAR.
