I have an ancient DOS / Win 3.1 hard drive. I took it out and put it into an external drive enclosure with USB 2 interface.
Win XP gave it a drive letter but won't explore the drive. I ran cmd and did CHKDSK and it said it can't read from RAW file systems.

Will ZAR help get it working? I don't think I did anything to damage the disk. I have already made a disk image using your free utitlity.

Thanks,

You should get a trial version of ZAR and try to see what comes off the drive. The unformat procedure is described here (http://unformat procedure is described herewww.z-a-recovery.com/unformat-tutorial.htm) - this is the best to start with if chkdsk complains about RAW filesystem. As far as filesystem is concerned, DOS and Win 3.11 use the same FAT16 the modern machine uses for small-size things, like flash cards, USB drives. So the ZAR works the same way with it. The ultimate result still depends on the damage - what and how bad the damage is.
