Default ZAR - windows 7 64bit - error: access violation

I am running ZAR on a windows 7 64bit intel based PC
12GB of memory. relatively new install, drivers are all uptodate

the drive 1.5tb, single drive, seagate
when I run ZAR, it finds:
2,660,900 file in 75,952 directories
so clearly, SOMETHING is still on the drive and the software is finding something

I am using the trial version of ZAR until I get a successful recovery of SOMETHING.

I have included the first part of the logfile.
(I deleted the end part which was a lot of "Object ROOT\LostDirs\AceLibrary has been marked for deletion (empty) FRS 34935 @ 1642239973" type records)

at this point I am close to spending a lot of money with ontrack to recover my drive/files. I would LOVE a 2nd option here!!

what is causing this problem?
is it windows 7? 64 bit?
would windows xp machine help?

either way, any help would be helpedful!!

thanks in advance
Pete

An XP machine would be nice. If it still does not work, report back and I'll see if we have something specific about it.

so, I moved the drive to a winxp machine.
started again
got 2,663,876 files 77,578 directories this time
(changed some of the setting blah blah blah)

got to the "mark files to recover" screen
evidently it does some kind of validation at this point
I just let it go.
watched some TV, ate some lunch.
when I came back, ZAR had CLOSED.
youch!!

tried to open save file, which told me that I needed an unlock code.
bit the bullet, bought a code

openned save file (takes a fair amount of time, file is 90+mb) ....

now it is validating again ....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
moved mouse, and ZAR closed
BOOM
this is not a good sign

going to try again of course ...
thoughts?

Start ZAR, click "Advanced Configuration", under "Valiation" - disable it.
See if this helps.

I suppose you do not get the prompt to "Send the error report"? ZAR would try to send the error data back home if possible, but I guess it does not reach that point.

ok
disabled validation
TADA
been recovering files for a few hours now
YAY

started with the most important directories
at some point I will do a complete pass and see if it crashes again

"Send the error report"?
nope
if and when I get one, I will definitely send it along

more once I have more to report

PS
YAY software is working and saved me sending $700 to ontrack !!

So I consider it finally did what was needed.
Would you mind awfully if I ask you to keep the damaged drive for a couple of days in case we need one more test run on it?
