Default Im totally lost

I will begin by saying I dont have a clue as to what Im doing. I just bought a Canon SD850 IS, and by accident reformatted the card before I had copied my pictures to my computer, called Canon and they suggested I use ZAR

I downloaded the program but Im not sure Im doing this correctly, nothing said anything about Canon so I clicked next, its been reading now for over 3 hours, its now on somthing that says recovery run progress information, so am I on the right track?

saw several things about card readers but I dont know what that is....not that I dont want to use this program becuz it was highly recommended but should I take this someplace and have them try to recover my pictures or what should I do,

sorry this is long, but how long does this usually take to run? asking becuz Im not sure if my battery on my camera will last as long as the process, and if I have to exit I understand that I will need to start all over

thanks for any help you can give me
