Default Recovery of 40GB disk running for 20 hours

i have been trying to recover a 40GB disk that had totally failed and was not being recognised as a formatted drive, let alone bootable. ZAR had managed to parse the disk and recognise the disk as FAT32 within 5 hours. Ever since then it has been displaying a status of Parsing the Filesystem: Reading directories (0%) and has located 0 files and 0 directories. I'm not convinced that is doing anything at all. How can I tell? How long should I let this run before giving it up as a totally broken disk? It woudn't be so bad if the backup set that I had taken with Norton Ghost wasn't also corrupt!

This thread is a good starting point. Scroll down for the section titled "What we need to investigate a filesystem analysis problem" - this provides list of things we need to get to investigate.

Default Re: How long should this take?

The issue might be the same as the one here, but no certainity.
Could you please try this:
  1. Download the updated executable at http://www.z-a-recovery.com/tt/zar-82-015.exe
  2. Save it as zar.exe into c:\Program Files\ZAR, overwriting the existing file
  3. Retry the run.
In case it fails again, I'd like to see what its recorded at the end of log.

OK, have downloaded this now and am starting the process of reanalyszing the disk. If it's anything like last time it will be about 5 hours before reachng the stage where the programme locked up last time. Will let you know the outcome.

Unhappy Re: Recovery of 40GB disk running for 20 hours

So, we progressed a little further this time. Now I have a window which tells me that the application has found 0 file and 0 folders. This is the end of the log file.
