Default ZAR - windows 7 64bit - error: access violation

I am running ZAR on a windows 7 64bit intel based PC
12GB of memory. relatively new install, drivers are all uptodate

the drive 1.5tb, single drive, seagate
when I run ZAR, it finds:
2,660,900 file in 75,952 directories
so clearly, SOMETHING is still on the drive and the software is finding something

I am using the trial version of ZAR until I get a successful recovery of SOMETHING.

I have included the first part of the logfile.
(I deleted the end part which was a lot of "Object ROOT\LostDirs\AceLibrary has been marked for deletion (empty) FRS 34935 @ 1642239973" type records)

at this point I am close to spending a lot of money with ontrack to recover my drive/files. I would LOVE a 2nd option here!!

what is causing this problem?
is it windows 7? 64 bit?
would windows xp machine help?

either way, any help would be helpedful!!

thanks in advance
Pete

An XP machine would be nice. If it still does not work, report back and I'll see if we have something specific about it.

so, I moved the drive to a winxp machine.
started again
got 2,663,876 files 77,578 directories this time
(changed some of the setting blah blah blah)

got to the "mark files to recover" screen
evidently it does some kind of validation at this point
I just let it go.
watched some TV, ate some lunch.
when I came back, ZAR had CLOSED.
youch!!

tried to open save file, which told me that I needed an unlock code.
bit the bullet, bought a code

openned save file (takes a fair amount of time, file is 90+mb) ....

now it is validating again ....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
moved mouse, and ZAR closed
BOOM
this is not a good sign

going to try again of course ...
thoughts?

Start ZAR, click "Advanced Configuration", under "Valiation" - disable it.
See if this helps.

I suppose you do not get the prompt to "Send the error report"? ZAR would try to send the error data back home if possible, but I guess it does not reach that point.

ok
disabled validation
TADA
been recovering files for a few hours now
YAY

started with the most important directories
at some point I will do a complete pass and see if it crashes again

"Send the error report"?
nope
if and when I get one, I will definitely send it along

more once I have more to report

PS
YAY software is working and saved me sending $700 to ontrack !!

So I consider it finally did what was needed.
Would you mind awfully if I ask you to keep the damaged drive for a couple of days in case we need one more test run on it?

hahahaaha
still copying files
when I was done, I was going to ask if you wanted me to help with some tests!

I will follow up once I have given up on trying to get more off of the drive.

If you are done with copying and the drive is still around,

would you please try http://www.z-a-recovery.com/zar85setup.exe
with validation ON, to see if the error is still there?

I get

An error has occured and it is not possible to continue execution
The program will now terminate
The error message was Thread fault IdentThread
Do you want to submit...

Running 64bit Windows 2008 r2, trying to recover a 4x2TB Raid 5

The error occurs in quick mode prescan, at 92% with build 16 and at 91% with build 17.
There is no data fragments after 32%.. can´t it just be stopped, skipped after that and get on to recover the data that can be found? no point in going further and get stuck on this error!

I´ll must keep on searching for alternatives since I need to solve it during this weekend..

Tried the software on an other disks, same configuration, with those and there it crached somwhere around 32%.. even there most of the data fragments were already scanned..

Attached a logfile, (removed a huge bunch of cluster error rows, before uploading)..

dosent say much to me this one..

----------------------

Would be nice if it had at least written down the the raid parameters it has found, with offset, block size, rows and rotation..

anyone any suggestions to what software to use instead that can find the raid parameters too? Raid reconstructor sucks, can´t find anything at all, an other can find data and some files, but not the raid parameters and the structure, one doesn´t accept the drives since 2 are found as they were 5tb volumes in windows, and 2 of the disks are found as separate disks..
Z-a seems to be the one, but it can´t handle that there apparently seems to be bad sectors at 91% even though theres no data after 37% in the prescan..
