Default Requirements before doing recovery

New to this need. I saw on another site something about needing enough disk space before attempting to do a recovery. My computer HD is only 80GB while the failed disk (appears to be corrupted data) is a LaCie 300GB brick. Do I need to have another 300GB brick before attempting to recover the data?

Yes. You will need an additional 300 GB drive to actually recover the data. The evaluation run can be completed without the spare storage, but in the end one more run will be needed with the 300GB storage available to perform a real recovery.
