Default Wolf Camera's attempt: unsuccessful

Over a week ago, I brought my memory card to Wolf Camera who then sent the card off to their "lab". I got a call today informing me that they were unsuccessful in retrieving any images so I will be picking the card up this evening to attempt recovery myself.

I have a Cannon Powershot S3 IS and used it to take over 700+ pics of my first trip to Italy. Every day, i viewed the pics just to ensure they were still there....on my final day, I pressed play to view and i received the text "memory card error" on the LCD.
Sure, I completely freaked out for a moment...and the only thing that happened with the camera was that prior to pressing "play", I received the low battery warning. After I tried viewing the pics, the battery went completely dead.

Of course, I replaced the batteries with new ones etc, still no luck. When I returned back to the states, my computer tells me that I have no images on the card (after connecting the camera etc...)

So I guess I am just hoping to maybe read some words of encouragement from you guys.... I didn't re-format the memory card so I know the data still has to be there. I'm a programmer so I know they must be there but I am hoping that where Wolf Camera failed, you guys may be able to help.

Do you know if these types of issues are common with the particular camera I am using? Thanks!!

You should just try. The data is either there or it is not.
The procedure is pretty straightforward, see
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/demo-ir.htm
Although this movie features version 7.9, nothing really changed since that days in the image recovery process.

Running out of battery when accessing the memory card is a bad thing with any camera, and really I can't give any solid prediction here. As usual, I suggest you use a card reader device to read the card.
