Hello,
I have several PST files (five files which I believe were created with Office 2000) that are almost exactly 2gb in size. My client can no longer open any of the files and needs the information contained therein. Zmeil will attempt read all the files, but no setting (loose, average, strict) will extract out any emails. Actually, I take that back... it extracts out two EML files but they are empty. ![]() I know the files contain some information, a contact list, and a calender, which I have confirmed with a different (not paid for) utility. I would really like Zmeil to help me out with this situation. I have noticed this issue with other PST files in the past as well. My current version of Zmeil is 1.2 build 5. Note: It is only PST files, not Thunderbird or Outlook Express files that I have an issue with. Thanks for any help! ![]() dellyfry |

Nice to see you back,
could you please try this one http://www.z-a-recovery.com/zmeil-12-006.exe to make sure what we have current has the same problem? However, take care that "Export to Outlook" part will most likely fail to work - not finished yet AFAIK.

Okay, good news...well, almost great news, but it crashed at 98%.
The program failed to respond after that. This PST has many, many messages and Zmeil was able to extract out 45, 000 ish files. Pretty close to a complete recovery and the messages appeared to be in good condition. ![]() The error message: "Failed mapView, 8 (C:\Work\MailRecovery\TestFileObject.pas, line 139)" Also, I noticed all the messages were dumped into the root folder that I extracted them to. This will make it difficult to sort through for my client. Is there any way to have them follow the original folder structure (at least, as close as possible) - inbox, sent items, trash, etc? ---: -inbox --message1 --message2 --message3 -sent items --message1 etc, etc.. |

I recall that folders are already in the pipeline, so probably we can make a first try on it in, I'd say, two days. And will try to fix that mapView problem in the meanwhile.

Sounds good, just let me know and I will gave it another test.
BTW, in the future do you plan on adding any sort of GUI to allow specific message viewing, file selection, etc? |

GUI or something else fancy is kind of low priority at this point. Current objective is to get PST processing working good, and that's gonna take some time; the documentation is somewhat in short supply. After that, GUI is pretty reasonable target to go for.

No way we can make this work in two days. More complicated that we initially anticipated.

Okay, I will attempt recovery with what I have at the moment but let me know when you have a new build available. I will try to keep the files for testing purposes (at least for a month).

It should even recover the folder structure whenever possible, but only if you export the result to the Outlook. With other formats, it is still the monolithic export. We, uh, have a lot of fun with this. Nested folders are not handled properly; messages are placed into their appropriate folder but all the folders are linked to the root of a tree. Encryption (compatible encryption, that is) also works mysterious ways, requires some weird handling.
