Default ZAR fails where Recuva works!?

ZAR has been unable regardless of settings thus far to recover more than a few images from a CF card that I accidentaly formatted (quick style on the camera itself).

Recuva gets all the files and the images are just fine, however they do not have their correct image name and thus I cannot put them in sequence

I am wondering how ZAR fails here. It has worked every other time I have used it...

I have tried direct recovery from the CF in a card reader as well as 3 different apps for making an image (and one for using that image to create a virtual drive to point ZAR at). 0 luck. ZAR seems only able to recognize and correctly recover 200ish of the images (jpg only not the cr2). While Recuva gets every one.

What mode do you use? Did you try both "Image recovery" and "Data recovery" modes? If yes, does "Image recovery" produce more files?

As a side note, every message containing Recuva was going to moderation. A leftover from the era when there was much spam involving it. I have removed it now, should be fine from now on.

If you really want to have some fun I can throw the image file on my server for you to pull and play with. Perhaps figure out why it is having such trouble.

I have sent you a PM with info to download the image file. There are alot of previous images on that card and I also at one point used it as a flash drive to install office on a friends computer when her CD was bad. The files I want are from the 22nd if that helps. They are the water fight ones, not the skate park ones. Thanks in advance!

Did you point ZAR to the image, or to the original card? The image is in R-Studio compressed format (.arc) which ZAR does not support. To convert this image to proper format, you need R-Stuido, load image into it, and make an image of the image, this time in .dsk (byte-to-byte) format.

I run this through and got some reasonably valid result, certainly more than 200ish of files, more like 46 GB data in approx 11,000 files and 40-something directories.
