Introduction panel

Here you can select the recovery type, adjust various settings and even purchase the license.

Settings

  • Select the interface language.
  • Click "Advanced Configuration" and open a preferences dialog, which allows you to fine tune various processing aspects.
  • Open save file with previously saved recovery run (note: this feature is not available in the demo version).

"Erased" versus "Current" files

When ZAR processes the volume, it will encounter multiple files marked as "erased" by the operating system. Two "layers" of data coexist on the crashed volume. There will be files which should supposedly be accessible. We call these "current" files, belonging to the "most current layer" of the data available. On the other hand, there will be files which were routinely deleted before the volume crashed. We call these "erased" files, representing all the "past layers" of the data. ZAR can be configured in three ways
  1. Recover both "current" files and files normally deleted - disregard any marks which may suggest the file was earlier deleted per user's request.
  2. Only recover "current" files - this would attempt to filter the garbage out and only extract the "most current" layer of the data
  3. Only recover files normally deleted, skip "current" files - useful for mass undeletions, this mode only recovers "past" data.

Select the recovery type and start to recover data

  • Image Recovery - this mode allows you to recover lost digital images and videos (typically from memory cards and USB thumbdrives).
  • Data Recovery for Windows and Linux - the most general mode of data recovery from various storages and filesystems.
  • RAID Recovery - reconstructs RAID layout, then recovers data.
